In our first story, Private Lives contributor Sandy Diaz explores the mystery of the female orgasm. Throughout the years' theories have come and gone about what women's orgasms are and how they have them. Today we know that women can orgasm in many different ways. Traditional vaginal intercourse, clitoral stimulation, anal penetration, caressing of the breast even just the liberal use of imagination can produce one or more orgasms depending on the woman, but how can a woman figure out which method is right for her practice? Ladies, find out what works for you. Then share your findings with your partner your sexual experience will improve dramatically. Let's look at clitoral orgasms. How do they happen by stimulating the clitoris? A vibrator is a wonderful tool. Some prefer the lips and tongue or fingers where the thrusting and grinding of a partner's pelvis. Vaginal orgasms don't require stimulation of the clitoral but vaginal penetration. Some women prefer deep penetration others fast in and out of action. Still, others prefer subtle movements or side-to-side activity. Proper breathing techniques are important as well. There is a tendency among many women to use high shallow breaths as they're building up to orgasm. This kind of breathing tends to tense up the body and can lead to sharper, shorter orgasms. Deep abdominal breathing, on the other hand, can lead to a very different orgasmic experience. Try breathing slowly and deeply, lifting and filling the abdomen. The orgasms that can follow tend to spread over the entire body. It may take some practice, but with this technique, multiple full-body orgasms are possible. Speaking of multiple orgasms, where man's orgasm often leads to the end of lovemaking. A woman's orgasm can propel the lovemaking forward, making it more intense and satisfying. Japanese culture seems to have a far more relaxed attitude towards sex than American culture. So my wife and I decided to try out one of the sex hotels. We walked into the lobby, and there were other couples waiting for rooms in the middle of the day. We picked a fully equipped orgy room and paid for two hours, and sat with the others to wait our turn. Everybody seems pretty normal, not a little horny. The research done by William Masters and Virginia Johnson in the 1960s showed us how blood rushes to the sexual organs during sex, but it didn't explain how or why newer research suggests our brains get involved. Here's Marla hatch with orgasms and brainwaves. So the research by Masters and Johnson explained the muscles in the genital area, including those around the womb, become filled with blood as the blood vessels in them expand this in gorging with blood reaches a plateau, and the blood is then driven out by the contractions of the orgasm. But what causes the encouragement and what causes the contractions? Researchers now suggest the answer may come from the right side of the brain. There are two hemispheres or sides of the brain, the right, and the left. The left brain focuses on day-to-day tasks like logical thought and speech, talking, writing, organizing, etc. The right side of the brain controls the artistic side, singing, listening to music, recognizing shapes and patterns and emotions. Researchers used a series of subjects attached to various machines that measure brain activity and blood flow while the subjects watch pornographic movies and masturbating. Interestingly, the left brain is dominant during the bulk of lovemaking. But just prior to orgasm, there is a massive shift of brain activity to the right side of the brain. This explains why people enjoy listening to music while making love and why love often defies logic altogether. The findings suggest that how we set the mood and, therefore, our minds will affect the quality of our orgasm, and it explains why after orgasm, many people feel unable to take a telephone call or even get a glass of water. The left brain handles the real everyday world. The right brain is more suited to enter artistic experiences.
